Beginning tonight, Bophana Center, in collaboration with the French Institute, the Centre for Khmer Studies and UNESCO, presents a series of screenings to mark the World Day of Audiovisual Heritage entitled Archives at Risk: Protecting the World’s Identities – Memories of Indochina. On Tuesday 27, Bophana hosts Princesse d’Angkor (1939, 24min) and La Cité engloutie (1947, 16min), with a lecture by Dr. Henri Locard, from 6 pm. Further screenings continue through to Wednesday 4.

Tonight – and every Tuesday – at Tim’s Greasy Spoon in Siem Reap, the Spoken Arts night encourages writers and readers to share performance of created or borrowed work. From 7.30 pm, down Soksan Road.

Seismopolite, a Norwegian-English quarterly promoting dialogue between the arts and politics is calling for papers on the politics of south east Asian contemporary art for an upcoming issue. Proposals required by November 12, final deadline December 6.

Kumnooh notes the sad news this past week of the fire at the rear of Java Café, affecting many families living in the building, and the destruction of art works, archives and equipment. Efforts are being made to assess the losses; look out for upcoming fundraising activities to assist the artists.

On an uplifting note to end this week, with the support of UNESCO, Phnom Penh is getting a floating arts centre. Dana Langlois of Java Arts and entrepreneur Alexis de Suremain are planning to convert an old boat currently docked on the Tonle Sap into a cultural icon for the city. They want your help to christen it – there’s still a few days before entries close on – yes, of course – Sunday. Name the Boat.

Throughout October and November, the French Institute of Cambodia is running Vivre Ensemble (Living Together: City, Architecture and Housing), a series of events that will include conferences and film screenings and other happenings. The action starts tonight, Tuesday 6, at 6.30 pm, with the 2015 Architecture contest awards ceremony, with the exhibition of models created by students from six architecture schools in Cambodia on the topic The Immeuble-villa. On Thursday 8 at 6.30 pm architects Kang Hok, Ivan Tizianel and Yvon Chalm will discuss the history of the immeuble-villa concept, developed by Le Corbusier in the 1920s. Friday 9 from 5 pm, you can enjoy a double feature: Jacques Tati’s films Mon Oncle and Playtime. Finally for this week, on Saturday 10 at 10 am the screening of a documentary, Le Siecle de Le Corbusier, examining the architect’s life and work.
