Kumnooh: Cambodia arts for week commencing 2 April 2024

Greetings:

Drop Cloth … a few things you might not know about

Trevor Lock.  An English comedian from rural Northamptonshire who was a member of the BAFTA nominated British Comedy Award winning Star Stories, who poured a glass of water over himself whilst addressing the Oxford Union in 2008 and who is now touring Asia with his one man comedy show Nothing Is Everything.  He plays at Phnom Penh at Speak Easy Theater/The Box Office on Saturday 6 and then at Ambar in Siem Reap on Wednesday 10; he is also running 1 1/2 day creativity workshops at the same venues, Saturday 6/Sunday 7 in PP and Saturday 13/Sunday 14 in SR.

A comedian or an aspect of the comedy that you think is overrated:
Crowdwork

A comedian or an aspect of the comedy that you think is underrated: Too many names to mention, there are so many great acts that not enough people seem to have heard of like Lillian Belli, Phil Kay, Jack Crissey, Sam Thomas, Johnny White Really Really, Rich Hardisty, Javier Costales, Karen Hobbs, Alistair Green, Ed Jones

An early comedy memory:
I got an encore on my first ever stand up show and then got booed off during said encore.

The last thing you had to eat:
A stale pan au chocolate in a very expensive hotel in Vientiane

Where did you study?
I went to primary schools in the cute Northamptonshire villages of Flore and Bugrooke, then attended Campion Secondary Modern also in Bugrooke, next to UCL in London for a BA or should I say BS in Philosophy and then finally five years in a 4th Way school all over the place.

When did you first come to Cambodia?
March 2019, I had an accident on a bus to Kampot saving an elderly gentleman from a suitcase falling on his head.  I myself was thrown across the bus banging my own head and ended up cancelling the show in Kampot due to concussion

A book or movie you keep going back to:
Groundhog Day, I just can’t seem to stop watching it.
The Scripture of the Golden Eternity by Jack Kerouac.  Filmmaker and comedian Lee Kern gave me a copy a few years ago saying “this isn’t what I thought it was going to be but you like this sort of spiritual crap”  He was right!  I loved it

What languages do you speak?
English, Spanish, Portuguese and Love

A country that you would like to visit:
I love the South American writers Jorge Luis Borges and Gabriel Garcia Márquez so I guess it’s odd I’ve never been to either of Argentina or Colombia

Something people might be surprised to know about you:
I died a few weeks ago.

A question from the last participant: if you could live anywhere in the world besides here, where would it be?
In the history of the world, Eden before all the snakes moved in and ruined it.  In the 20th century, Marilyn Monroe’s cleavage for the unparalleled views on midcentury politics and culture.  In today’s world it’s gotta be Cardi B’s side boob and/or tattooed back for the exciting perspective on contemporary pop culture they afford. I don’t drive so the lack of parking wouldn’t be an issue.
