I have just today stumbled across a group called Spoken Arts Siem Reap. According to their Facebook page, it’s for “anyone who loves to perform – or listen to – spoken word, monologues, short narratives or any other form of lyrical expression.” Fortnightly Spoken Arts nights are held at Party House on Sok San Road, every other Tuesday from 8.30 pm. And the page also assures me it’s on tonight.

And those literary minded who are shuttling from the north to the south this week would get an opportunity to back-to-back at the monthly Java Open Stage: Poetry open mic on Thursday 12 at 7 pm. This month the presentation will be preceded by a writers meet-up at 6 pm, an attempt to nurture a cross-language literature community in Phnom Penh. Readings and discussions and more! Recent months have seen the growing involvement of young Khmer writers along side the English and French. Downstairs at Java Café and Gallery, Sihanouk Blvd, Phnom Penh.

On Friday 6 at 6 pm, at Meta House, the opening of a multi-disciplinary exhibition, Spaces of remembrance and views of souvenirs, using drawing, painting, installation and video. The project is a collaboration between Cambodian artist Chan Nawath and Germans Anja Bodanowitz and Janna Rehbein. The research by the artists was organized in cooperation with the local Memory Culture Committees of the districts and the NGO Youth for Peace.
