Tonight, Tuesday 23, Meta House kicks off a week of screenings from Interfilm Berlin, one of the most important and biggest short film festivals worldwide. Festival founder Heinz Hermanns presents Phnom Penh with the best films from the 2015 edition. Screenings nightly until Thursday, then a children’s presentation on Saturday.

On Wednesday 24, Siem Reap dance group New Cambodian Artists will perform at Kaifun Eatery (#25 Street 334 between St 57 & St 63). Doors open at 6 pm, the two-part performance starts at 7 pm.  Admission $10 (children under 12 free), with funds raised to cover the costs of the four young dancers traveling from Siem Reap to perform in the impoverished Steung Meanchey community on the outskirts of Phnom Penh.

In February Phnom Penh Community College will be running a series of evening art workshops – from 6.15 pm to 8.15 pm – on the fundamentals of drawing, featuring artist France Damon. Classes begin Wednesday 3 with self portrait, with subsequent weeks covering still life in the Khmer tradition, figure drawing, and drawing a landscape from a photograph.

On Wednesday 3 at Meta House, a night of animated films. At 7 pm, the documentary 25 Frames to Move (2009, 18 min) follows the first career steps of Cambodian animator Poi Chhunly, which will be followed screening of some of his works. Then at 8 pm the screening of animated shorts by French filmmaking couple François Leroy and Stephanie Lansaque, passionate about Asian cultures, with a Q&A to follow.

On Thursday 4 at 6 pm, Sa Sa Art Projects hosts an artists’ talk by Enzo Camacho and Amy Lien (Manila/Berlin/New York), artists who work collaboratively in multiple locations, overlapping diverse research methodologies with experimental and conceptual play. “The artists will present Leak Light Time Heat, a project that was developed in Manila and exhibited in a solo exhibition at 47 Canal gallery in New York City in 2014. Research for the project centred on call-centre workers in the Philippines, who typically work night hours in order to service American customers during US daytime.”
