Kumnooh: Cambodia arts for week commencing 23 February, 2016

Tonight, Tuesday 23, Meta House kicks off a week of screenings from Interfilm Berlin, one of the most important and biggest short film festivals worldwide. Festival founder Heinz Hermanns presents Phnom Penh with the best films from the 2015 edition. Screenings nightly until Thursday, then a children’s presentation on Saturday.

On Wednesday 24, Siem Reap dance group New Cambodian Artists will perform at Kaifun Eatery (#25 Street 334 between St 57 & St 63). Doors open at 6 pm, the two-part performance starts at 7 pm.  Admission $10 (children under 12 free), with funds raised to cover the costs of the four young dancers traveling from Siem Reap to perform in the impoverished Steung Meanchey community on the outskirts of Phnom Penh.

A new regular Wednesday night event in Phnom Penh is at Phnom Penh contemporary arts space n o w h e r eSketch Circle Phnom Penh is a fortnightly two-hour art therapy session. “Let go the stresses of the week, lose yourself in the art and bring out your inner child.”   Free for all. Anyone and any styles are welcome. 7 pm start.

On Friday 26 at Meta House, Berlin based artist Alfred Banze presents a new installation: Public Colors, Private Lines. “During workshops with young local artists at Sammaki Artspace in Battambang, he created large drawings and video clips based on local, personally experienced short stories, that have been merged to a collective room installation.”   Opening at 6 pm.

On Saturday 27 at Meta House from 9 pm the creative team that brought you the WASH collaboration and The Stones are Awake present Performance Experiments beta, as a preview teaser in advance of the full Performance Experiments 01 to be held on March 19.   The beta experiments will feature Warren Daly, Hal FX, Chhan Dina and Scott Bywater, with live mixed soundscapes, poetry and visual wonders interspersed with selections from Invisible Agent catalogue.
