Kumnooh: Cambodia arts for week commencing 19 December, 2017

Tomorrow night, Wednesday 20, at Sa Sa Art Projects, there will be a reading performance by artist Yu Ji (currently living and working in Shanghai and Vienna), Half Peel Half Pulp, which “can be regarded as an experiment on reflection of her walking, her thinking, her practicing into the city.” Door opens from 6 pm, performance starts at 6:30 pm and lasts about 20 minutes with party to follow. In English and Khmer.

Interfilm, one of the most important short film festivals in Europe, showcases the tremendous diversity of international short film. Festival Director Heinz Hermanns presents a selection from last year’s programme on Wednesday 20 in Kampot at Ecran (4 pm) and Couch Potatoes (8 pm) and on Saturday 23 in Phnom Penh at Meta House (7 pm).

The hour-long performance showcases classical and folk dances from across Cambodia, including the famous Apsara. On Saturday 16 at 6.30 pm, Sa Sa Bassac is holding a closing night event for Than Sok’s solo exhibition Klah Klok, named for a common Cambodian dice game, for which the artist has designed a special game board. After a few rounds of the game itself, the artist will enter into a conversation about the exhibition and the ideas behind it.
