Kumnooh: Cambodia arts for week commencing 23 April, 2019

Greetings,

On Wednesday 24, 6.30 pm at Java Independence, the opening of Micro Organics, an exhibition by Yim Maline. “Yim Maline’s artwork starts with walking. Walking through natural spaces, undisturbed by human intervention. The shapes and colors of flowers, roots, and trees that she observes form the basis of her compositions. It is in these quiet landscapes that Maline seeks a reconciliation with her personal history and the cycles and resilience of nature. This exhibition is included in the programme Landscape Afterwar(d)s.” Until 21 June.

Their photographs, videos and installations show how they recognize themselves in the events of the past, through different types of archives, vestiges and testimonies. Kumnooh: Cambodia arts for week commencing 2 April, 2019

Greetings,

On Wednesday 3, from 6 pm at Sa Sa Art Projects, Light, Life, Live, an open studio with artist in residence Anurak Tanyapalit. “During the first few weeks Anurak collected flies lying dead on the floor of Sa Sa Art Projects every morning. They were roaming lamps the night before. He was particularly drawn by a book by Yuval Noah Harari, Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind, which traces the development of human actions and inventions on the planet over time and their impacts. Like these flies, perhaps we can see that they come to life and then die, because of the night lamps – a human invention. The artist turns the flies into a sculpture in an organic form as if a hive floating in the air.”
