On Friday 2, at the French Institute, a performance entitled Choreographic Rarities 2018, a collaboration between dance schools Children of Bassac, Phnom Penh, and the Conservatoire for Dance in Bagnolet, France. “This cultural and educational exchange program will allow the pupils from both school to discover different modes of transmission and propagation of historical and contemporary repertoire through the creation of a show.” From 7 pm.

SaSaBassac presents a new solo exhibition by Tith Kanitha, Instinct.   The exhibition “brings together sixteen steel wire sculptures of varying sizes and distinctive, biomorphic forms. The artist has playfully staged them as characters throughout the exhibition space in both conventional and surprising ways – they hang, drape and dangle at different levels from the ceiling and walls, and rest on or slightly off open-ended pedestals.”

Sa Sa Art Projects presents Another sound, a collaborative exhibition by Chaing Mai installation artist Arnont Nongyao and Phnom Penh sound artist Khvay Leoung. “With the language barrier between the two artists, the presented work is not only a result of their collaboration but in fact also the method of their collaboration. They attempt to achieve a mutual understanding through a sonic experimentation or rather another sound language.” Show runs until 30 March.

Tonight, Wednesday 21, Sa Sa Art Projects presents Surfaith, an open studio with artist-in-residence Tengshing Kazama. “Tengshing Kazama researches the everyday “faith” in the background of customs and practices from the standpoint of a Japanese monk. He will present “Ebb” series which started from 2011’s Japanese big earthquake. All the works to be presented at the open studio are new works that he made during his stay at Sa Sa Art Projects.”  Studio opens from 2pm, reception starts at 6pm.

The artist has playfully staged them as characters throughout the exhibition space in both conventional and surprising ways – they hang, drape and dangle at different levels from the ceiling and walls, and rest on or slightly off open-ended pedestals.”

On Wednesday 7, from 6 pm at Sa Sa Art Projects, as part of the Another Sound exhibition by Arnont Nongyao with Khvay Loeung, a special event Collective Media Spaces: Listening from the Archive. The event comprises the playing of selections from Cambodian National Radio in 1971 & 1984, by Maggie Jack, with discussion to follow. “The first two files are traditional pieces of music performed and recorded in the late 1960s and produced in 1971. The third file is a 38 minute Ayai comedy about villagers preparing for Cambodian New Year, performed and recorded in 1984.”  Event in Khmer and English.
