Kumnooh: Cambodia arts for week commencing 13 October, 2015

Greetings,

Kumnooh notes the sad news this past week of the fire at the rear of Java Café, affecting many families living in the building, and the destruction of art works, archives and equipment. Efforts are being made to assess the losses; look out for upcoming fundraising activities to assist the artists.

After a quiet Pchum Ben week, it’s a busy Sunday 18. At Meta House at 6 pm, London based Performance Exchange presents Shakespeare’s Kings and Clowns, a romp through royalty and buffoonery via a number of familiar characters. Entry $8.   Reservations: 023-218 987 or 010-312 333.

For a more laid back and artistic approach, at 7 pm Show Box offers Drink and Draw – as ever, $3 gives you two hours with a life model. Let the booze be your muse. B.Y.O drawing materials
More info

And at 8 pm, at Meta House, ArtPlus Foundation and The Piano Shop present Masterpieces of Romanticism, as part of their 2015 classical music concert series. Pianist Poom Prommachart performs works by Frederic Chopin and Nikolai Medtner. Entry $10/$3.
More info

On an uplifting note to end this week, with the support of UNESCO, Phnom Penh is getting a floating arts centre. Dana Langlois of Java Arts and entrepreneur Alexis de Suremain are planning to convert an old boat currently docked on the Tonle Sap into a cultural icon for the city. They want your help to christen it – there’s still a few days before entries close on – yes, of course – Sunday. Name the Boat.

For a more rock’n’roll musical flavour of Phnom Penh, make sure you follow weekly gig guide LengPleng.com as well.
