Saturday 12 from 2 pm at Meta House, the opening of The Art of Mind: Illustrating the Unspeakable, an art exhibition created by a band of Cambodian students and artists from the American University of Phnom Penh who wish to speak out about the stigma against mental health. “To this day, the topic is still taboo in Cambodian society and many feel that it is better to keep it within themselves rather than speak about it openly or seek professional help. However, we believe that this is not a healthy approach to dealing with internal issues, and with this exhibition, we’ve decided to take a bold approach to express ourselves despite the stigma in the hopes of ending discrimination and encouraging empathy and understanding for one another.” The event will be followed on Sunday 13 with more, and then the following Saturday and Sunday afternoons with panel discussions, live music and short films.

Kumnooh was originally established in May 2013 as a sister publication to LengPleng.com, the online music magazine for Cambodia, to provide basically a gig guide for the wider arts, covering art galleries, literature, dance, cinema, photography and now comedy.
You may be interested in becoming a Friend of Kumnooh, where we ask venues, artists and individuals to show their support by making a small monetary contribution to keep the lights on. In return for a boost in promotion, including a non-Facebook web page on our site for direct contact with the dedicated arts audience. Check out our first example – Chhan Dina Gallery.
