Opening on Thursday 3 at Sra’Art is The Rise, an exhibition of works by Cambodian painter Theanly Chov. “Theanly’s paintings explore themes of individualism and societal progress in post-war Cambodia, with his subjects often depicted in a characteristic pose. His paintings capture the struggle and difficulty of realizing oneself in a society driven by opportunity and upward mobility. Despite these themes, his artwork is imbued with optimism and harmony.” From 6 pm.
Coming on 18 and 19 August to Speakeasy Theatre is an experimental non-verbal puppetry performance, Scylla and Glaucus, the second production by the newly formed Lo-Key Theatre Company. Tickets available here.Media: Kumnooh

Java Creative Café’s new project, in conjunction with We Film Lab and RUUB Studio, will be an exhibition of Cambodian film photography to take place from October. They are currently calling for submissions on the theme of nostalgia – find out more at their website. Deadline for submissions is 31 August.

Khmer Architecture Tours conducts Sunday architecture tours in Phnom Penh to promote the understanding of modern architecture in Cambodia, focusing on buildings erected after independence in 1953, described as ‘New Khmer Architecture’, while setting these in the historical context of Phnom Penh.
