On Thursday 7 at 6 pm, Sa Sa Art Projects presents an artist talk by Pen Robit as part of his current exhibition, Thread. In Khmer with English interpretation. “Thread presents two new series of painting by Pen Robit, marking a new step in the artist’s ongoing investigation of his artistic language with identity, iconography, and abstraction. Anchoring on krama, traditional Cambodian scarf, as an object of study, Robit uses painting to weave, fold, and reconstruct forms in search for expressions that are freed from the boundary of the textile and nationalist imagination.”

At Java Creative Café Independence Monument, That Which is Hidden, an exhibition of sculptures by Bor Hak and paintings by Hour Seyha. “The works of both Bor Hak and Hour Seyha seek to reveal the hidden meaning in the world around us. Seyha, as he explains, is a “child of forest” and grew up in the Forest of Athor in Oddar Meanchey. There he encountered the forest spirits and the ghosts of lives lost. In this series of paintings he makes visible apparitions that like their living counterparts seek safety from the threatening environment. In the sculptures of Bor Hak, he finds the hidden figure inside a piece of wood. Once revealed, it carries a message to the viewer to look beyond what we know, or what we think we know.” Until February 28.

At Java Creative Café Tuol Kork, a solo exhibition, Women of the Edge of Time by Tum Yuryphal, a Creative Generation awardee, curated by Meta Moeng. “The title of this exhibition, Women of the Edge of Time, comes from Yuryphal’s deeply personal experiences as a woman in Cambodia. Yuryphal develops her works reflecting on her experiences as a woman in this society but also as a reflection from the experiences of other women as well. Yuryphal relies on local materials, especially cotton string, which are conceptally loaded from her experiences and thought.” Until February 28.

The Traditional Dance Show, presented by Cambodian Living Arts, takes place at the National Museum stage. The hour-long performance showcases classical and folk dances from across Cambodia, including the famous Apsara.
