Kumnooh: Cambodia arts for week commencing 30 May, 2017

Tonight, Tuesday 30 at Meta House, Deep in the wood (the eyes of the forest) by Bor Hak and Hour Seyha, artists who live and work in Battambang as part of the Romcheik 5 collective. Ten scenes juxtapose hand-carved wooden sculptures with large acrylic and enamel compositions. From 6 pm.

On Wednesday 31, from 4 pm, students of the Russian Ballet Cambodia will perform at the Dance of the Elements event at Raintree: “a celebration of arts: dance, tourism, film and fashion in one act.” Part of the proceeds will go to a scholarship fund for Khmer students.

At the French Institute on Thursday 1, dance troupe New Cambodian Artists present Water Music/Without Sinking, new work based on the music of Robert Fripp, Hildur Gutnadottir and Radian. 6.30 pm.

Dance Made in Cambodia is at the very end of its crowdfunding campaign to assist with a production of Romeo and Juliet in a Cambodian context in October of this year. Help them get over the line – there’s only a couple of days left and they’re so close to their goal.

Bophana Center has announced a new contest for young Cambodian filmmakers to produce a short film of under ten minutes on the theme The Khmer Rouge Tribunal and Cambodia Today. An information session will be held June 7 at Bophana; and applications can be made here.
