Rising Together from the Ashes, by filmmakers Maxie Borchert and Bilal Mohammed, follows the story of NGO founder and school director Muoy You, widow of Cambodian painter You Khin. Screening at 7 pm, to be followed by a Q&A with Borchert and Muoy You.

On Wednesday 11, from 6 .30 pm, at Java Café, the opening of I Want to Get Married, an exhibition of drawings and video by Srey Bandaul. “Srey Bandaul uses parody as an artistic tool to confront the complications of Cambodia’s past, identity, social values and artistic practices. The title I want to get married is a metaphor for understanding each other and compromise.” A special performance piece will commence at 7 pm.

On Thursday 12 from 7 pm, Meta House will host the launch of Relics of Rangoon, an illustrative book of photographs by journalist Philip Heijmans, which “seeks to definitively capture the historic buildings of Myanmar’s capital Yangon (Rangoon under British rule) at a time they are in danger of disappearing forever.”
