Tonight, Tuesday 28, at Meta House, this relatively quiet week commences with an exhibition opening. Impressions of Rajasthan is the result of Phnom Penh-based photographer Kiira Gustafson’s visit to the region last January. What is the nature of beauty and how does it interact with non-beauty? This weekend at l’Institute français, three days of screenings from the Fête du cinéma d’animation (Festival of Animated Film) 2014, organised by the French Association of Film Animation (AFCA). A wide range of examples of the genre will be shown from Thursday 30 to Saturday 1.

On Friday 31, the monthly Open Stage poetry night at Java Café is a special event, covering the Halloween theme. For the younger at heart, there’s Spooky Bedtime Stories for children at 6 pm, followed by a Halloween-themed movie in the playroom. The regular Writer’s meet-up at 6 pm, with poetry open mic from 7 pm: readers and writers of all languages are invited to share their scariest, creepiest and most horrifying stories and poetry!

Down in Kampot this weekend, for two shows only, Friday 31 and Saturday 1, Hanuman Spaceman, a jungle cabaret put together by the Cambodian Space Project, Intimate Spectacle and Theatre Kantanka (Australia), Lightbox and KCDI Kampot Traditional Music School. Stage one of this vibrant, funky, psychedelic rock opera unfolds from page to stage for the first time from 8 pm at the Kampot Traditional Music School. Entry by donation.
