Today, Tuesday 30, Meta House presents the opening of Continuum, an exhibition of paintings by the late artist Donvirao.  “Inspired by the works of George Groslier and Jean Despujols, Douglas Victor (Donvirao) is looking for a continuum of craftmanship and storytelling, while depicting and narrating the beauty of Cambodia through oil paintings.”  From 6 pm.

On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 at The Plantation is the opening of a new solo exhibition by Nak Noy, Mother Nature.  “The artworks will portray the strong and universal bond between the artist and his very powerful mother and sisters. Making us all look deeply at the bond we have with the strong women in our lives, mothers, sisters, family, friends or even Mother Earth who watches over us all.”

White Canvas Cambodia have launched season 5 of the White Canvas Cambodia Art Contest, with both adult and under 16s invited to participate.  Application deadline is 30 September.

Grey.  “… offers the viewer the chance to visit realms of an alternate reality, envisaging people and worlds beyond our conventional understanding. Expanding on myths, religious concepts, and fiction, the exhibition explores the concept that reality is not singular but a construct shaped by our sensory perceptions and altered by our emotional responses. This series posits that reality is inherently individual, suggesting a profound absence of universal truth.”   Until 31 August.

Khmer Architecture Tours conducts Sunday architecture tours in Phnom Penh to promote the understanding of modern architecture in Cambodia, focusing on buildings erected after independence in 1953, described as ‘New Khmer Architecture’, while setting these in the historical context of Phnom Penh.  Here is the schedule for February – May

Kumnooh was established in May 2013 as a sister publication to LengPleng.com, the online music magazine for Cambodia, to provide basically a gig guide for the wider arts, covering art galleries, literature, dance, cinema, photography and now comedy.

Multi-media exhibition, Voices, featuring paintings, photos, sculptures and digital art by female artists: Kaeu Sreypeou, Ny Sreyroth, Sou Sophy, Sopheak Sao, Vicheka Kol, Sopheak Lach, Sokreaksa Bung, Jinfeng Lin and Rathanita Ny from Cambodia, Amy Lee Sanford (Cam/USA), Emily Markiss (USA), Ame Kunty (France), Aurélie Fischer (Belgium) and Anya Minko (Australia/Thailand).  Slideshows by late Australian photographer Tim Page, Steve Porte (USA), Nicolas Lainez (France/Spain) and Choun Sopheap (Cambodia) focus on women’s lives in Cambodia from the early 2000s up until now. The NGOs Daughters of Cambodia and A21 will show handicraft and artworks made by women who have survived violence.  Until July 21.

These irregular lines, visible only from the skies, weave a tapestry of existence exclusive to the vast expanse of the lake, a web intricately woven by countless moments and lifetimes.”  Until 30 June.

Friday 31 at Chhan Dina Gallery/Il Forno from 6 pm, a musical performance by Canadian singer-songwriter Clay George amidst new and old works by Dina. 

Also on Friday 31, 7.30 pm, Prum Manh & Neang Sousou present an evening of traditional Khmer improv comedy – the old meets the new – at Royal University of Fine Arts.  In Khmer with live English translation available.

Opening Saturday 1 at The Plantation is Reflection, an exhibition curated by visual artist Vika.  “Vika is a visionary artist with a background in engineering and a keen interest in space exploration. At Java Café Tuol Tom Pong next weekend are a number of performances of Season of Migration, a Cambodian dance drama created by the Sophiline Arts Ensemble.  “Imagine that heavenly spirits have come to earth to live among humans and how they are shocked and transformed by the experience. Created by choreographer Sophiline Cheam Shapiro, Seasons of Migration explores the expressive boundaries of Cambodia’s exquisite classical dance, rendering contemporary ideas timeless and the ancient utterly modern.”  7 and 8 June at 7 pm; 9 June at 4 pm.  Tickets available for purchase at Java Creative Café Toul Tom Poung – at the bar or through Telegram.

Retrouver la danse, un dialogue entre archives photographiques et peintures (Rediscovering dance, a dialogue between photographic archives and paintings), an exhibition by Romain Bernini.  “During his residency at the French Institute of Cambodia and the Ecole Française d’Extrême Orient, Bernini has explored the concept of a fragmented body, revealed by archaeologists, to draw a parallel with the history of dance and Cambodia, particularly during the Khmer Rouge period when life vanished both for men and their creations. However, dance, in its ephemeral beauty, continues to shine, it resists, more imperishable than stone, it reappears with a resilience that defies time.” Until 26 June.
