Opening on Thursday 16 at Silapak Trotchaek Pneik / YK Art House is Wave, an exhibition of aerial photography of Tonle Sap by Eddie. “Wave not only refers to the lines etched upon the lake’s surface by movement, but also represents the traces left by humans and organisms sustained by the Tonle Sap over countless millennia. These irregular lines, visible only from the skies, weave a tapestry of existence exclusive to the vast expanse of the lake, a web intricately woven by countless moments and lifetimes.” From 6 pm.

The evening will include a detailed presentation on Cambodian birds and their habitats, as well as tips on photographing birds and animals in the wild.

Coming next month to Java Café Tuol Tom Pong are a number of performances of Season of Migration, a Cambodian dance drama created by the Sophiline Arts Ensemble. “Imagine that heavenly spirits have come to earth to live among humans and how they are shocked and transformed by the experience. Created by choreographer Sophiline Cheam Shapiro, Seasons of Migration explores the expressive boundaries of Cambodia’s exquisite classical dance, rendering contemporary ideas timeless and the ancient utterly modern.” 7 and 8 June at 7 pm; 9 June at 4 pm. Khmer Architecture Tours conducts Sunday architecture tours in Phnom Penh to promote the understanding of modern architecture in Cambodia, focusing on buildings erected after independence in 1953, described as ‘New Khmer Architecture’, while setting these in the historical context of Phnom Penh.
